Historical Information[edit]
A main gauche (French for "left hand") was a type of dagger designed to be wielded in the wielder's left hand in conjunction with a rapier or smallsword in several Renaissance schools of fencing. By wielding a rapier and dagger in the "Florentine" fencing style, the dagger could be used both for defense (i.e. parrying) and offense, much like the Dual Wield Ninja skill.
The Main Gauche first appeared in Final Fantasy II, and subsequently appeared in III, VI, XII, Tactics and Chronicles. The Dagger traditionally possessed a weaker damage rating, but rather provided a significant bonus to a defensive statistic such as Evade.
