Deodorize[edit]

Does anyone know if Rainstorm acts like Deodorize like rain storms in the game actually do? If so, that would be great for casting on Thieves.

Rainstorm's effect on scent-based tracking[edit]

According to my testing, Rainstorm does NOT deodorize the player. This was my method: I went to East Sarutabaruta, found a Savanna Rarab (sight/scent), and bound it. Then, I ran a long distance (one full map square, clear weather, did not cross water) and waited. The rarab eventually came for me.

Second, I repeated the same test, except I cast Deodorize on myself after binding the rarab. The rarab did NOT pursue me, as expected.

And lastly, I repeated the same steps as above, but I cast Rainstorm instead of Deodorize. The rarab DID pursue me when it was unbound. I repeated the test with a crawler, except I ran TWO full map squares, and had the same result. Rainstorm currently does NOT deodorize the target. I've submitted this to tech support as a bug. --Karl1982 23:20, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

I'm removing the following line from the article, pending a more accurate and thorough test: "Rainstorm does in fact act like rain weather, in that it will deodorize its target. (Tested with Hide)" It's also possible this test was done by a THF/NIN and Stealth interfered with the test. --Karl1982 23:26, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

I've had a chance to do some further testing, and I've confirmed that Rainstorm does NOT interfere with scent-based tracking. I chose set points, bound the rarab at one, and ran to the other, so there were no variables other than whether I used Deodorize or Rainstorm. As before, Deodorize made it lose aggro somewhere along the trip, and Rainstorm had no effect. --Karl1982 15:12, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

This is not a bug. The monster will not track you by scent during real rainy weather because it is affected by rain weather, not because you are. Rainstorm gives you the effect of a rainstorm, but this does not affect the monster, nor the monster's abilities (which includes tracking by scent).--Shalidar (talk) 14:25, July 16, 2012 (UTC)
