Talk:Mortal Ray

Confirmed that the Doom status from a low-level Taurus' Mortal Ray CAN still process and potentially kill a high-level character. While soloing this spell with a BLU95/WHM47, two of the Level 37-38 Tauri mobs I fought at Phomiuna Aqueducts used Mortal Ray and its Doom status processed both times despite them being too weak. During both incidents, Doom's timer was about 9 seconds long, which only gives you a limited amount of time to kill the mob, hopefully learn the spell, and possibly remove Doom. Though Cursna removed the first Doom status, it failed to removed the second one much to my dismay. I faced both mobs at the time they used this Mortal Ray and figured Doom wouldn't process because of the level difference between me (95) and the Tauri (37-38). Obviously, I was proven wrong.

As I found out the hard way, DON'T underestimate low-level Tauri when learning Mortal Ray. As others have said, the safest way to fight these mobs is to disable the target lock-on and turn around when as they're preparing this spell. Also have a Reraise and either Holy Water or Cursna on hand in case Doom processes (even if that item or spell isn't guaranteed to remove it). --LordChocoSlime 14:29, December 31, 2011 (UTC)

Has anyone tested the viability of this spell as strategy for taking down strong enemies? Example, sub blm, Dark Staff, tons of Macc gear, elemental seal + convergence + darkness magic burst, mortal ray, then stun/sleep the mob for 1 minute? Seems like something worth testing at least.
