Talk:Calculating Blue Magic Damage

This is an excellent guide for people trying to learn what it takes to be a good blue mage... I used it years ago when the job first came out and gained prevalence through monster Cannonballs and Big 3 spamming, but it seems the author stopped updating it, as the new spells have not been added to the charts. A comprehensive charting that includes all new spells and skill levels would be REALLY nice to have.

Also, someone needs to point SE at this page to show them we have it figured out... and make them stop coming up with crap gear that has magic accuracy and magic attack bonus all over it... YES we get it, you want us to use magical type spells in addition to the physical spells... But guess what? When you have a spell like Fire Breath that does 1/2 your HP in damage if not resisted that is what, 1000 dmg now to a blu in abyssea with 2k hit points? Maybe 1200 if you have a couple pieces of increased breath damage gear? Yeah, well my Quadratic Continuum does on average 2000 damage to abyssea mobs and costs 1/2 the mp of Fire Breath as well as takes 0.5 seconds to cast as opposed to all day. If you want magical type spells to get cast, don't push gear on us. Adjust them to be more efficient and effective by reducing casting/recast time, MP cost and adjusting the damage calculation to reflect more of a benefit from existing MAB or MACC gear. And don't start creating more notorious monsters that are weak to magical spells in hopes we'll start using them in that way, because we'll just be screwed out of a spot in the alliance to make room for a Black Mage or Scholar that can do better naked with a gimp sub job and no atma. I have capped blue magic skill at 90, fully merited, with AF+1 body, AF3+1 legs, Mavi Scarf and Tathlum and Teal gear set pieces filling out the rest of the gaps... and guess what? Even with +50 mnd/int atma set along with 2 merit abyssites I was STILL only doing ~600 damage to Itzpapalotl... and that thing is WEAK AGAINST WATER!! Come on... It kills me to see all these blue mages running around with the +15 MACC swords from ToM along with AF3+2 feet as part of their normal gear set.
