Can anyone verify whether or not it is required to have the key item Frog Fishing to hook this fish? After countless trips on the Central Landing to South Landing via Newtpool route on the Phanauet Channel barge without any luck I went and got the key item. On my second trip after that I managed to catch a Tricorn. --Diabolos-Brian 10:32, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

frog fishing key item is definitely required to hook them. they only can be caught for 2-3 minutes, twice a real life hour. the ONLY place they can be caught is in phanauet canal on the barge ride from central landing to south landing, passing through the newtpool. the actual ride is about 8 minutes, but the tricorns can only be caught when the npc says "we are now passing through the newtpool, be on the look out for giant amphibious monster's with orange and blue triangular shaped heads" or somthing to that extent.. the window to catch them is then open for about 2-3 mins. what makes them a huge pain to catch is at most you will be able to get 6-7 bites, usually only 3-4.. A. a tricorn doesnt necessarily bite. B. they can break your line fairly easy if they do. C. depending on skill, you can time out or have lacking skill message. so in summation, every real life hour.. you would be lucky to catch even one... if they come up as the fish ranking fish for your server, my advise is to spend the 2 weeks going out for a couple trips here and there for the 2x windows per hour, rank your top fish, and auction house the few left overs. as it is one of the scarcest fish, they will sell rather high. fly lures are also able to be used, but i recommend flies.. you will surely break more lines than you catch tricorns. help this helps clear some things^^
