Talk:Specter

Perhaps we should include an image of each different type of specter so people could tell the difference easier. --Damonmensch 22:43, 20 November 2008 (UTC).

The picture shown is that of the sword/shield one which is listed as thf, I'm going to update the subtitle of the picture to reflect this. (and look into getting screenshots of the other ones)--Wpause 00:48, September 23, 2009 (UTC)

Link[edit]

I've noticed with some of the Specters they will link and others won't. Perhaps its certain job types that link with others, or perhaps its only at nighttime, but it seems that something causes these to link or not link. I most often experience this while camping Western Shadow. Usually there will be a blm in the room and I'll fight the thf placeholder with never a link. But on occasion a war will pop instead of the blm and that will link with the thf. This has been my experience and I have not done any extensive testing, just think its useful information to have if anyone knows the exact conditions of this. --Verran42 21:40, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

You have to remember they're undead and easy prey at 75, and although there isn't usually any standing aggro at 75, there's always a chance of blood aggro. --Jakk Frost 09:29, December 11, 2009 (UTC)
Absolutely possible to link even while you're at full hp. Seems rare -- maybe it's only the highest level ones. Doesn't have anything to do with blood aggro though. --Vulturelainen 03:10, July 5, 2010 (UTC)

Spells[edit]

Fighting a Specter earlier today, it casted Dispel on me and Firaga2. So, it's either a RDM with -ga spells, or a BLM with dispel. --Bluefrostie 19:32, February 23, 2010 (UTC)

Level range[edit]

For a while the level range reported was 56-58. More recently someone changed it to 56-64, but this doesn't seem to be right. I just killed 14 specters in Fei'Yin; all of them gave between 23 and 25 experience points to a solo level 80. Looks like the old level range is very likely still correct. Perhaps the previous editor killed Southern Shadow by mistake, thinking it was a normal shadow (accounting for the additional experience points)? Alternatively perhaps he was in a small group and forgot the signet XP bonus. The other part of his reasoning - that because it's a blm with Dispel it must be at least level 64 - is specious. When monsters have support jobs, they don't generally work the same way as they do for players. Best to stick to how much XP the monster gives when killed. --31415 22:55, July 30, 2010 (UTC)
