Talk:Adoubeur's Pavise

Tested this shield it does give you Shield mastery. Got tp when I blocked even though the mob hit me 0. If you block with it you will not be interupted. Seku 05:58, November 12, 2009 (UTC)

-Weird cause Shield Mastery, as the ability, only gives TP when you are hit for more than 0. Hmmm. --Zauath 22:06, November 29, 2009 (UTC)
Shield Mastery stops interuptions and gives tp from a successful block. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Percival337 (talkcontribs).
Yeah, Shield Mastery does both give TP and stop interruptions. The interruption part was added about half a year after the trait itself was added, but it's been that way for about 3 years now. :P --Kyrie 05:04, December 1, 2009 (UTC)

Historical info[edit]

Couldn't the shields carried by police trained in riot control (The nearly full-body ones that often have a window at eye level) be described as a modern-day equivalent or spiritual successor to the pavise? Tahngarthortalk-contribs 23:25, June 23, 2010 (UTC)

The modern riot shield i would say is more arguably modeled off of the "Scutum" as opposed to the "Pavise." both in form and function. The Pavise was not practical to bring to bear, being awkward and heavy. Its form predominately that of the role of a mantelet. The scutum would be more practical, and additionally the grandfather of the pavise. The fact that only shield bearers in ffxi can use this seems to be a generalization by the dev team. Shield must only be used by shield users, ideally rng would be added to this list, since the rest are bow and x-bow users. Milotheshort 17:42, July 30, 2010 (UTC)
