Category talk:Furnishings

/Requested move discussion

I've been thinking about candid shots of funiture. I know I've gotten pieces of furniture before, and found out that it looks like crap. There are others that maybe I would get, if only I knew what they looked like. I remember getting a Noble's Bed, and thinking "man this thing looks cool". So I was thinking furniture deserves SS, so long as they're isolated, something to give people a good idea of how it looks in a Mog House.

As far as placement on the page, perhaps at the bottom? I don't know any piece of furniture that has an enormous How to Obtain section, so if its placed under that, people will be able to see it and judge if they want to add it to their mog for looks. Thoughts? --Chrisjander 20:18, 4 September 2006 (EDT)

I agree. Some of the holiday trees have candids aligned to the right of the page. --Gahoo 23:21, 4 September 2006 (EDT)

This Category needs major Revisions and needs to be standardized. While I aggree that candid pictures are needed, the sample you've provided doesn't confrom to Ffxiclopedia's image policy. --She 14:52 CDT April 20, 2007

Major revisions accomplished. See Template:Furnishing, and Cupboard for an example. --User:Chrisjander/Sig 08:22, 15 June 2007 (CDT)

It appears that there are 20 items missing from the Category:Furnishings (and are therefore seemingly not using the new {{Furnishing}}). If anyone feels like it, they can start at #1 item and ensure it is in Category:Furnishings and delete [[:Category:Furniture]]. Once we get 151 into Category:Furnishings we can move the page over. --User:Gahoo/Sig 16:46, 20 June 2007 (CDT)

Problem[edit]

Calm down, there's no reason to get upset. Why don't you work with Karuberu and discuss what you want done with the page, and see if you can collaborate to make it work better? Also, you can sign your posts using the third button from the right, or just using four tildes. --User:Chrisjander/Sig 02:37, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

First of all, this is a community: please be civil and assume good faith. Now, let me explain my behavior: Since you obviously didn't know much about what you were doing, I reverted your changes, then attempted to understand whatever you were trying to do. I'm sorry if it took too long for your tastes; the problem wasn't as obvious at my resolution (the resolution that table happened to be designed for). After I figured out the problem, I made a quick change so you would stop editing, then went back and refined it.

As for adding Merchant and Craft information, the table is fairly crowded already, so adding two new columns would likely make the information look cramped or hard to read. Aside from that, the table is only meant to show an overview the Furnishing stats; complete information can always be found on the item's page.

Here's the deal, although of course you should check the history. The page was messed up; there was no scroll bar, the list ended at C, the Rare/Ex category was shunted out of sight to the right. I had come up with a fix,(edit: in appearance indistinguishable from a technically adept rendering) rough as it was, and was continuing to add Crafted and Merchant listings (edit: There is room on the Rare/Ex column, as I said before). Karu came in, saw it was messed up, but didnt bother to check whether anyone was fixing it, and fixed it. -edit- turns out he did know, and in fact was trying to interrupt me fixing it; see below -/edit- The difference between us is, I saw it, because I use it every single day. I fixed it by trial and error. I don't 'mess' with anything; check my contributions, everything I touch is clean when I leave it. He bounced in, and knew the code. 20 keystrokes tops, if you don't count the insinuating comment. Now, what I would say is the same about us is, we both assumed. He assumed, and still does, that not knowing page setup means you are going to make a mess. I assumed, correctly as it turns out, that he was trying to get rid of my work. I regret the use of the word assassin only inasmuch as it has thus far been ineffective; the intention was to convey that it is -wrong- to interrupt someone's editing purposely. It isnt under Inappropriate Behaviour, but it should be. It comes very close to 'Editing Wars'. The page has room for Merchant / Crafting in the Rare/Ex box, as I stated earlier. "No" is 2 letters signifying nothing much. Maybe I will get around to it, if only so edit trollers can be motivated. "I reverted your changes, then attempted to understand whatever you were trying to do" The order is wrong. Understand changes, then decide whether or not to revert the work. Making change "so you would stop editing"? Good grief. I rest my case. User:Promethean -edit- having said all that, I won't be editing that particular scrolling page setup again; my workaround was unsatisfactory. That is, if recommending changes actually gets things fixed around here, because my changes would still have been better than a list that ended at C and excluded the Rare/Ex category.

The columns are sortable, so it would be impossible to use a column for multiple things without defeating the purpose of being able to sort by columns; You would need to create a new column for each peice of information. In this case, I think adding more columns would make the table look too cramped. The table is meant to present basic information so you can find the furnishing you're looking for; it's not meant to provide complete information on the item. ~ Karuberu 14:48, 4 November 2007 (UTC)

The categories Rare/Ex and Crafted/Sold by Merchant only overlap with one item; this is noted above the list. I will be attempting to add merchant names and the major craft required to make such items as are not Rare/Exclusive. If possible I will add the level of craft required. No other site that I am aware of has such complete information on one page. It is high time that one did. It was my preliminary work in attempting to make the columns fit that gave me the idea for shortening the names of the categories. Where clarity is lost, comprehensiveness and conciseness are gained. Promethean 11:44, 6 November 2007 (UTC)Promethean

Separated Rare/Ex and the Crafted / Merchant categories after all; this is purely an aesthetic decision, made possible by creating space; I reiterate that Rare/Ex and Merchant/Crafted are almost entirely mutually exclusive and therefore can be one category if needed. Picked up more space by shortening Moghancement, Bastok Conquest etc and some of the + Craft skill moghancement names. Hopefully there is more space than will eventually be needed there, and can later remove NPC from the heading to reduce the width. Partly I made it that wide to show what can be done to make space, partly because it may be needed for merchant names, especially where the item is also crafted. The entries are, so far, now one line apiece, the previous lengthy description of 'can put items on top' had made a lot of them, inasmuch as they were two lines, messy. We don't need a comprehensive list like that. The information can be found on the item's page, just a click away. If you'd like to create a comprehensive list, create a "Furnishings Guide" page (or something similar to that) and put a link to it on the Furnishings page. ~ Karuberu 14:21, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

We? A click for each of 20 items, and a click back, is a lot of clicks for those with low bandwidth. I do, although I would rather not make this page redundant. I did, and did. If anyone can find it, now that you moved it between 2 pages of lists.Promethean 05:18, 7 November 2007 (UTC)Promethean

Couch[edit]

In my mh I have a kitchen / dining room area, bedroom area, and a office area... and I wanted to add like a family / living room... but they don't have any couch / sofa / recliner do they?.. ; ; ... they should add them... ^^ Nally 23:55, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

Maybe a dumb question, but once furniture has been placed, how do I remove it? I want to get the next bed, but don't want 2 beds... Hiseahler 14:42, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

If you want to remove furniture, make sure you have the correct free spots available in your Storage. Remember that Furnishings allow for at least one storage space, and alot of people are in a rush to make more room for their House or Locker. If your Storage is full, obviously you can't remove anything as the furishings are holding the items. Clear up some Storage space, and the "Remove" on the Layout menu should be made available. --Thundermelon 11:48, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Updates and Corrections[edit]
