Walkthrough

  • Trade 10 stacks of crystals to the Bastok Gate Guard or complete Wading Beasts fifteen times to unlock the mission.
  • Accept the mission from a Bastok Gate Guard and go the president's office and talk to Iron Eater for a cutscene.
  • Head to the Throne Room in Castle Zvahl Keep and enter the BC.
  • This is a 6 person BC fight against Zeid. Only characters that are currently doing the mission, or have previously done the mission (regardless of current allegiance), can enter the BCNM.
  • Once inside the Throne Room, run straight across to the big door on the other side. Heal up, eat food, and then when you are ready, enter the BC by targeting the door and selecting "Where Two Paths Converge".

BCNM Fight

  • Buffs are removed upon entry.
  • Do not move towards Zeid until everyone is inside. He will not attack until you move into his aggro range, so it is safe to buff up and rest to full without worry as long as you stay out of the circle.
  • Zeid is capable of using all Great Sword weapon skills up to Ground Strike, which tends to be his favorite. He casts Absorb spells, but nothing more.
  • The weapon skill Shockwave is AoE and can cause Sleep. If a large portion of your party are melee, consider using Poison Potions; not necessary for mages, as long as they keep proper distance. As mentioned, he tends to favor Ground Strike over other attacks.
  • Zeid also uses two unique abilities; Abyssal Strike is a ranged attack that damages and causes Stun, indicated by a purple flash on Zeid's sword. Abyssal Drain is simply that, a Drain move about as powerful as the spell.
  • Zeid may have some form of TP Regain, as he will build TP quickly even if being kited and only attacked by magic.
  • Eventually, when Zeid is at about 65% HP, there will be a cutscene featuring Volker, who will join you in the fight. You are given time to rest afterward as Zeid will not immediately aggro again, but Volker will attack if you wait too long.
  • Volker must be kept alive in order to win the BCNM, and Zeid's Ground Strike can take most, if not all, of his HP in one shot. His attacks hit fairly hard, but he likely won't take hate until your damage-dealing party members are defeated.
  • Zeid will spawn two mobs called Shadow of Rage, which have attack equal to Zeid but much less HP. They are highly resistant or immune to all forms of Sleep. A well-timed -ga spell can kill both in one hit. The Shadows can use Great Sword weapon skills at least up to Shockwave, and use the same Abyssal moves as Zeid. They gain TP very quickly, even without being attacked at all.
  • Zeid will later recall the Shadows if they are defeated, but not immediately. You have about a minute before he does so. Killing them is highly recommended and not very difficult, as they hit nearly as hard as Zeid and can skillchain with him, likely causing the end of your party.
  • After the fight watch another cutscene and then return to the president's office and talk to Iron Eater.
  • Watch another cutscene and finish the mission.

Testimonials

  • A WHM to heal party, A RDM to heal Volker and one DD dedicated to taking out the shadows. The remaing DD will work on Zeid. Don't worry about the AoE sleep. We had one person slept in five fights! The skillchain wiped our party three times before we decided to take out the shadows. Then we won twice in a row.
  • A party of 5 members which have the job listed: 75MNK/NIN 75DRG/SAM 75WHM/SMN 75DRG/WHM and 75RDM/NIN can do the fight nicely in 5mins and 34 secs.
  • Trio'd by 75DRK/SAM, 75PLD/WAR 72BLU/NIN with little difficulty.
  • Soloed by 75BLM/RDM not using kite methods, just buff up fully at start (Stoneskin, Blink, Aquaveil, Blaze Spikes for dmg and Phalanx) and then use Freeze II/Burst II and first fight finishes (I found it very helpful to let your racast timers run out while in the cutscene to have the spells ready to use as soon as you start the next part of the fight). Next fight buff up again with the MP you have left then Manafont and finish off Zeid.
  • Duoed by BLM75/RDM and RDM74/WHM with no two-hours. Finished the first part with Freeze II, Bind, and Burst II, rested for a minute before starting round 2. Recommended not to rest long enough to let Volker attack, as Ground Strike nearly one-shot him when he did. Opened with Thunder IV, followed by Thundaga III to wipe Zeid's Shadows as he called them without giving them a chance to attack. We lost several times by losing control of the shadows; letting them live past their initial appearance will almost definately result in the death of the BLM and loss of the BCNM when Zeid and both shadows turn on Volker. BLM ran out of MP, but the RDM and Volker were able to finish Zeid. If you decide to go solo, Thundaga III after your first nuke in the second round is very highly recommended, as Zeid's shadows will kill you very, very quickly if you give them the chance.
  • 3 man with 75 rdm/blm 75 war/nin 75 thf/nin. It was tough but magic is the key to this fight. We only did it because the RDM 2hr near the end and finished off Zeid. -SanoP
