Historical Background[edit]
In Greek mythology, the Strophades were a chain of islands famous for being the site to which the harpies were chased by the Boreads. At this point, the goddess Iris intervened to prevent the harpies from being slain, but in exchange they were forced to end their torment of Phineus. Thus, the Strophades marked the site of the harpies' defeat, and therefore it is appropriate that a trophy of the defeat of a Harpeia type monster should be named for them.
