Item Levels are displayed at the bottom of certain equipment's item descriptions.

Applicable Items

  • Item levels are only displayed on certain level 99 equipment.
  • Generally, only weapons (including ammunition) and armor equipped on the head, hands, body, legs, and feet slots have item levels.
    • Equipment introduced before March 27, 2013 generally does not have item levels.

Effects on Experience Gain

  • The check message that displays detailing the strength of enemies level 100 or higher in Seekers of Adoulin Areas is now dependent upon the item levels of adventurers' equipment.
    • For example, if an enemy is level 100, it checks as tough to a player with no item level equipment. If that player wears a level 100 item level piece, the enemy would check as an Even Match.
  • Item Levels can cause monsters that would be Easy Prey or Incredibly Easy Prey to check as Too Weak. However, they are still aggressive and they still grant experience/limit points.

Effects on Skill Ratings

  • Item-level equipment with "+X Skill" does not actually increase skills with specific weapon types. Instead, it provides accuracy and attack bonuses as if the skill were higher. This may be to prevent early access to high-skill Weapon Skills.

Effects on Spell Interruption

  • Spell Interruption Rate is decreased if both an item level and "[type of weapon] skill +" are present on items equipped as main weapons.

Effects on Utsusemi Shadows

  • If both item level and "[type of weapon] skill +" are present on the item equipped as a main weapon and the player's main job is set to Ninja, the number of Utsusemi shadow images consumed by attacks will be reduced.

Effects on Pet Levels

For all jobs except Beastmaster, Dragoon, Summoner, and Puppetmaster, item levels are only a symbolic measurement of an item's power and do not currently have any effects.

  • At level 99, certain Beastmaster Jug Pets can have their stats increased based on the weapon equipped in the main hand.
    • The internal level of the pet is still level 99, but the pet's stats are raised.
    • The following pets are affected by item levels:
Slippery Silas / Turbid Toloi / Crafty Clyvonne / Dipper Yuly / Flowerpot Merle / Lucky Lulush / Nursery Nazuna / Dapper Mac / Discreet Louise / Fatso Fargann / Presto Julio / Mailbuster Cetas / Audacious Anna / Swift Sieghard / Faithful Falcorr / Bloodclaw Shasra / Bugeyed Broncha / Gorefang Hobs / Gooey Gerard / Crude Raphie
  • At level 99, Dragoon Wyverns' levels are based on the item level of the weapon equipped in the main hand.
  • At level 99, Avatars' levels are based on the item level of the item equipped in the ammo slot.
  • At level 99, Automatons' levels are based on the item level of the animator equipped.

Note: in all of the above cases, changing equipment that affects a pet's stats will dynamically adjust the pet's stats, even if the pet is already active.
