Walkthrough

  • Following the cutscene from the previous mission, examine the ??? again to receive a Confrontation status effect and start a battle.
    • You have 30 minutes to complete this battle.
    • You won't be warped, the battle takes place in the same place you activate it.
    • No Experience is lost upon defeat.
    • Only one person in your party needs to initiate this battle for all party members.
    • Make sure your entire party is together before starting the fight, anyone out of range will lose their items and not get the reward.
    • Only one party in the area may be participating in this battle at once, others will receive a message that they must wait longer until the other party finishes.
    • You must wait one Earth day (JP midnight) if you turned in the food key items from the previous mission for a Viridian Key.
  • Waves of Seed Mandragora will arrive and attack you (a maximum of five at a time, respawning every 1-3 seconds, until you have defeated 30).
    • The mandragoras have very low defense and magic defense, ice spikes from a 75 Black Mage was dealing 26 points of damage, Earth Crusher broke 1000 damage, and tier three agas nearly broke 3000 damage.
    • Plantoid Killer has no effect.
    • The mandragoras have roughly 350HP each.
    • If they stay alive for too long, they will use an ability called Demonic Flower, a one-shot Souleater-like ability that converts 80-90% of their HP into unblinkable damage.
  • Easily soloed by any level 75 job.
    • Easily soloable by any Mage with Area of Effect Magic, Damage Dealer's Lv.70+ with Area of Effect Weapon Skills. (see testimonials).
    • It is very effective to activate /autotarget (/autotarget on) and back up into a notch or hollow of the nearby wall, forcing all of the incoming Mandragoras to arrive in front of your character. Autotargeting will allow a two-handed weapon one-shotting each mandragora to swing at the minimized delay caused by the retargeting. This battle can be cleared in a matter of minutes with this method and managing your character to always be facing another mandragora.
    • Pets, Summons, and Automatons will be deactivated upon the start of the fight. Recast timers are not reset at that point.
      • Avoid using pets if possible, as it will interfere with autotarget if the mandragora start linking on the pet instead of you.
      • Dragoon Wyvern was not dismissed upon the start of the fight.
    • If you venture too far, the battle will end and you will fail the mission.
    • You have to collect the Seedspall items (not the goblin food items) again to retry the fight if you fail the mission, this includes being defeated, running away, being disconnected, or timing out, and probably any other form of not killing the NMs by the time they despawn.
    • If you redo this fight, clicking the ??? after recollecting the Seedspall items will start the fight immediately.
  • Defeat the mandragoras to obtain an Amber Key and 500 EXP or limit points.
  • Touch the ??? to receive the final cutscene.

Repeating

  • You must wait one Earth day (JP midnight) to spawn the mandragoras again if you and are repeating this for the Amber Key. You will need to get the three Goblin NM pop items and kill the three NM's again for the key items needed to pop the mandragoras.

Game Script

Gatherer of Light (II) - Qufim Island
Seed Mandragora: The Seed Crystal...its echo...they did not arise from nothingness... They were drawn to this world...by a song... A song...that rings out ceaselessly...from within a mother's heart...

Seed Mandragora: Mortals...do you not see? You are dealing...with powers...far beyond your control.

???: The "Seed Crystal," eh? So that oversized slab of rock has a name.

Aldo: I had a hunch that following that crystal would lead me somewhere. Looks like this is where things start to get interesting...

Aldo: Well met, Player Name. I see you've still got a nose for trouble.

Aldo: Now what in Altana's good name is going on here?

Aldo: And what were those overgrown bean sprouts blathering on about? A song within a mother's heart?

Young Aldo: Ah. So you must be Aldo...

Young Aldo: Yes... You have your sister's eyes.

Aldo: What!?

Aldo: Boy! What did you say just now!?

Young Aldo: Finally we meet...Uncle.

Young Aldo: Mother named me Aldo too. After you...

Aldo: Just one minute, kid! Are you saying you mom is my sister!?

Aldo: That you're...Emeline's son?

Aldo: My sister...still lives!?

Young Aldo: I'm afraid we've no time to celebrate this family reunion now, Uncle.

Young Aldo: We must unearth and release the antiphon...and quickly.

Young Aldo: Before the ancient echo reduces our world to so many pieces of shattered crystal.

Young Aldo: Luckily, you just may prove to be the key to it all...Uncle Aldo.

Young Aldo: Yes. You just might be able to break the resonance between Mother and the Seed Crystal.

Aldo: What nonsense is this!? What does Emeline have to do with this so-called Seed Crystal!? You expect me to believe this childish fantasy?

Young Aldo: A fantasy? I think not, Uncle. No...there can be no doubt.

Young Aldo: Can you not hear it? A prayer of life... Yes, this world must be saved...no matter how great the cost.

Young Aldo: If you wish to save Mother...

Young Aldo: If you care for the sister you once knew, make haste for Fei'Yin.

Young Aldo: The servants of the Seed Crystal will not hesitate to put their dark schemes into action.

Aldo: Hold it right there, boy!

Aldo: I must know...where is Emeline!? What's been done to her!? Young Aldo: Oh, you'll have your answers soon enough...my dear Uncle.

Aldo: What the--? Cursed brat! Seed Crystals and ancient songs!? This is all patently absurd!

Aldo: But if the boy speaks true, and my sister truly still lives...

Aldo: For all these years, I thought I had lost you forever that day. By the goddess, I won't let them take you from me again. Emeline...

Aldo: Fei'Yin, he said? I'd best be on my way.

Aldo: And Player Name, I trust you to keep quiet about what you've seen here today.

Aldo: If these unfounded claims of the world's end reached the three nations, we'd have nothing short of mass panic on our hands.

Aldo: I intend to uncover what information I can, and suggest you do the same. But until we find out if the boy's words hold water, we're not to speak a word of this--not even to one another.

Aldo: Until we meet again...
