Historical Background[edit]

All imbued cells used in Salvage are named after various cloud formations.

Fractus means “broken” in Latin, but in this context it appears to refer to either cumulus fractus, a variety of cumulus cloud or stratus fractus, a variety of stratus cloud.

Cumulus fractus

These are cumulus clouds (large, puffy, cottony clouds) which appear in irregularly shaped fragments giving the appearance the cloud has been “torn up”. It generally indicates storms are either approaching or have already passed by. Cumulus fractus clouds are found 1500 feet or below.

Stratus fractus

These are stratus cloud (flat, sheet-like clouds) which appear in regularly shaped fragments giving the appearance the cloud has been “torn up”. It generally indicates there may be drizzle or light snow coming. Stratus fractus clouds are found 1500 feet or below.
