Walkthrough

  • Speak with Gumbah twice, for two cutscenes (or dialog). He is located on the upper floor in Bastok Mines inside the only house.
  • Travel to the Palborough Mines, and go to the top floor (by walking or taking the elevator (the elevator goes straight from F1 to F3)).
  • Proceed to the boat at (H-8), You need to get on the boat, and pull the lever to activate it. (Zoning into Zeruhn Mines while on the boat is how you will receive the actual cut scene. Anyone can pull the lever so long as you make the trip.)
  • Zeid gives you a great sword (Chaosbringer), tells you to satisfy its thirst for blood and to then seek him out again in Beadeaux.

  • To satisfy his requirements, you must kill a total of 100 monsters with it. Any monster will do, regardless of level or location.
  • There is no notification once you've reached the required number of kills; keep track yourself.
  • For the weapon to count as a kill, the finishing blow has to be made by a normal attack with the Chaosbringer.
  • If a monster dies because of the use of an ability that kills itself (such as a bee's "Final Sting" or a bomb's "Self Destruct"), that monster will not count towards the total. A monster that has such an ability will count towards your kill total only if it does not successfully use that move.
  • The sword has a memory similar to the Trial Weapons; meaning the sword will keep track of your kills regardless if you unequip it, zone, or do anything besides toss it from your inventory. (Unlike Trial Weapons quests, the monsters to be killed can also be too weak to be worthwhile.)
  • A monster that dies through the use of a weapon skill does not count as a kill. You can use WS during battle however it can not be the finishing blow.

Once you kill one hundred monsters, take the blade with you to Beadeaux for a cutscene. You do not need to have the Chaosbringer equipped or have WAR as the main/sub job but it does have to be in your inventory. You will now be able to become a Dark Knight.
