Historical Background[edit]

Sabotender is the Japanese name of the enemy often translated into English as Cactuar. Sabotender is the English rendering of Sabotendaa, which means "to almost be a cactus" in Japanese (saboten- "cactus" + da "to be" + -a "almost"). The location of the Sabotender is also a nod to where this creature gets its name, the East (just as Cactuar is located in Western Altepa Desert, and it gets its name from the West).
