Historical Background[edit]

Loxley (also spelled Locksley) is the name of a town located in the County of Yorkshire in England. It is the birthplace of Robin Hood in English folktales.

Robin Hood was a figure in English folklore who was a popular outlaw and who robbed from the rich and gave to the poor and fought against injustices, particularly against tyrants such as the Sheriff of Nottingham and Prince John. His base of operations was in Sherwood Forest (located in Nottinghamshire) and engaged in activities in Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire. Robin Hood appeared in numerous tales, the earliest of which was recorded in the 15th century CE, though evidence indicates some tales may have existed orally back to the 13th century CE.

Robin Hood occasionally wields a sword or dagger, but is most well-known for his expert use of the bow.
