Category talk:Automaton Attachments

Feb 2015 Update[edit]

Added all new attachments, first time user so let me know if i messed anything up.

June 5/06 Update[edit]

From the dat files (credit goes to Taj):

Replicator When HP is low, converts all wind maneuvers into shadow images. (looks like wind element)

Hammermill Increase the damage of Shield Bash. May also induce Slow effect. (looks like earth element)

Animator +1 An improved version of the animator. Allows orders to be more directly relayed to the automaton Lv. 71 PUP

Found it on KI. Chernabog 00:28, 6 June 2007 (CDT)

New Attachments[edit]

Heat Seeker and Scanner drop from Hilltroll Puppetmasters in Mount Z. I got them both in an xp party today. I would imagine the other Crafted Only parts drop from the pups as well, but i haven't changed the 'how to obtain' parts on the others. Quannump 21:51, 31 December 2006 (EST)

Note: I've deleted some of my postings in this discussion that were past update information about the attachments. I've done this so the discussion page isn't so long and cluttered with information we already know. Chernabog 05:37, 20 December 2006 (EST)

I can confirm that Loud Speaker II, Tension Spring II, and Mana Tank II all drop from Hilltroll Puppetmasters. Tension Spring II and Mana Tank II cost 3 of the matching element, I lost the lot on the Loud Speaker II. --Nobodyreal 00:02, 29 July 2006 (EDT)

Now that the Attachments lists have been altered a bit in their order, the first paragraph under Acquiring Attachments is all messed up ("The first two attachments listed under each element can be obtained from Yoyoroon..." even though in all the lists except Water, the second Attachment listed is the one that only drops from the troll PUP monster) - Hiachi 12:45, 8 August 2006 (EDT)

Equiping Attachments[edit]

One thing that would be nice to know: how do you access the Automation Equiping menu?

That's been in the Category:Automaton Attachments page ever since I added it (about three days after ToAU's initial release). I understand not everything is easy to find, but you're asking about how to do something on the Talk page of the very article that has the instructions you are asking for...please look harder - Hiachi 14:50, 27 July 2006 (EDT)

HAHA! At first I thought you were answering my question then I realized someone posted right under me with no line break or sig added. Heh. Anyways, divided question sections now. Still no word on new attachments? I know their names, but not what they all do. Chernabog 03:56, 28 July 2006 (EDT)
That was me who asked the original question, and I guess I should have been more precise. One finds the Automaton equipping menu in the Equipment category from the menu, but it isn't accessible via Ctrl-E. I'd actually read the explanation you'd provided, and it wasn't immediately clear to me that Ctrl-E would have a different behavior than selecting Equipment from the root user menu. (In other words, Ctrl-E brings one to the character's equipment menu, bypassing the player's.) --Pachichachi 06:55, 5 August 2006 (EDT)

I may amend the page to make that distinction clearer. Curious about the formatting on this page: Why is it that everything is crunched under one topic (like Fire/Ice, Wind/Earth, Thunder/Water, Dark/Light), as opposed to under their specific heading? Would make updating this page a LOT easier. I would do it, but I'm more afraid I'd mess everything up :P --KingOfZeal 20:22, 3 August 2006 (EDT)

If you want to play around with formatting, just copy and paste the text into the sandbox (after clearing it out) and have fun. You can't mess up there ^^ --Chrisjander 11:24, 6 August 2006 (EDT)

Reformatting done. Should be much easier to keep track of updates now. --Nobodyreal 08:33, 8 August 2006 (EDT)

<3 Nobodyreal. I tried, but I couldn't get it so the sections were layed out side-by side... I'm such a newb at wikis :P --KingOfZeal 10:37, 8 August 2006 (EDT)

I really wish we could macro the equipments, that would make it less of a pain to switch frames. Something like /equip pframe "Stormwaker Frame", /equip pbody "Valoredge Head", /equip attach1 "Shock Absorber", etc. That would be nice :/ - Hiachi 18:45, 10 August 2006 (EDT)

That would be nice, but with scripting programs available, it would make it very easy to exploit to an absurd degree. Imagine being able to deactivate your automaton, completely swap out the frame/attachments, and reactivate it all with the push of one button. --Nobodyreal 06:46, 11 August 2006 (EDT)

I see nothing wrong with that, if it's done in a situation that switching the parts manually would be allowed; the only difference is that the macro would speed up things, not offer an ability the player wouldn't have otherwise. - Hiachi 08:06, 11 August 2006 (EDT)

Prices are definitely down on my server on the type-II attachments that are exclusively dropped from the Hilltroll Puppetmasters. I picked a couple of the less valuable ones up for around 10K each last night. On a related note, it would probably be useful to include some information on where the Hilltroll Puppetmasters spawn, so anyone who is able to persuade a party to go hunt them can find them without too much trouble. The ENM drops are still another matter, though. There have only been 2-3 sales of each attachment, with prices running between 1-2 million gil. I'm guessing that the drop rates for the attachments are just as bad as the drop rates on all the other useful gear in this particular ENM fight. Compound that with the fact that we need 8 different attachments from it, and you're probably looking at a lot of solo ENM runs...

Odd... Could have sworn I'd signed the above paragraph... Also, it might be useful to provide a link to the Pulling the Strings ENM. There's mention of the ENM in the main paragraph, but there's no actual link at this time. --Althorn 16:35, 10 October 2006 (EDT)

Oct 18th Update Attachments[edit]

Looks like there's only 4... But they sure look nice!

Reactive Shield = A fire-based automaton attachment. Turbo Charger = A wind-based automaton attachment. Dynamo = A thunder-based automaton attachment. Optic Fiber = A light-based automaton attachment.

From http://ffxi.killvoid.com/forums.php?m=posts&q=138028

I'll leave it to someone who knows how to work the forms to put it all in. Still no word that I can find on how to aquire them. Chernabog 04:32, 19 October 2006 (EDT)

Rumor is that the new attachments are crafted. I haven't seen recipes, though. Good news is that the Tier II attachments can now be crafted as well. --Althorn 15:05, 19 October 2006 (EDT)
http://ffxi.killvoid.com/forums.php?m=posts&p=2775557#2775557 - "Obtained through the Ashu Talif BCNMs, specific drop conditions are still unknown. -Vyzrael (Asura)" Chernabog 04:03, 20 October 2006 (EDT)
I've been following the discussions on KI, and at least a couple of them have been earned as ??? reward items from the second Ashu Talif fight. --Althorn 20:22, 23 October 2006 (EDT)

December 18th Update[edit]

No clue wtf the Kanji says. Taken from KI, which itself was taken from Mystery Tour. http://ffxi.killvoid.com/forums.php?m=posts&q=143085 In the thread someone says the Tranquilizer is Ice. I think we can safely assume the other three are from Water, Earth, and Dark. I'm gonna take a wild guess and assume the Schurzen = Earth, Condenser = Water, and Economizer = Dark. As usual, I'm not a forms coding guy, just bringing the information to the table. Chernabog 04:28, 19 December 2006 (EST)

Babelfish translates that as Tranquilizer=ice, Schurzen=earth, Condenser=water, Economizer=darkness. Nothing about what they might actually do.--Nobodyreal 05:48, 19 December 2006 (EST)

Ya, lots of confirmation on the elemental types now. If you see this on AH, check who the poster was and /tell them and ask where they got it. :p Chernabog 06:30, 19 December 2006 (EST)

Tranquilizer (2 Ice)

Enhances magic accuracy

Schurzen (2 Earth)
May erase an Earth Maneuver
effect to reduce severe physical
damage

Condenser (1 Water)
May erase a Water Maneuver
effect to prevent an overload

Economizer (1 Dark)
When MP is low, may erase a
Dark Maneuver effect to restore MP Chernabog 15:15, 19 December 2006 (EST)

Quote from KI: "According to a JP player who has both Economizer and Condenser listed on the AH, they added them to the Ashu Talif #3 fights. It makes sense I suppose, since the other half of the set drops from there. So, hopefully, they should be on everyone's AHs soon." Chernabog 01:39, 20 December 2006 (EST)

Flashbulb + Hilltroll PUP[edit]

So... the main article says they drop Flashbulbs... is this true? And if so, has anyone confirmed one way or the other if they drop the other formerly craft-only attachments? Chernabog 05:37, 20 December 2006 (EST)

Crafted attachments[edit]

I remember, back when there was only 3 tiers of attachments, hearing reports that crafted attachments were dropped from more than Hilltroll Puppetmasters. I think Troll PUPs in general can drop all crafted attachments? Maybe with 1 of the 2 tiers that are crafted/Troll dropped only from Hilltrolls and the Truesight Trolls in Halvung. --Jopasopa 19:06, 14 February 2007 (EST)

Errors in the guide[edit]

in two halfs of the guide they conflict each other. the list of attachments says one thing for what the hill giant drops and the hill giant it self says another. EX. Flashbulb said to be droped on the attachment page off the giant yet when you cflick on the giant and look at the "srop list" flashbulb is not there ! >.> someone fix this ty ^^ —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Stonehealer (talkcontribs).

If you got one to drop, you should make the changes. If you didn't get the drop and just noticed the inconsistency, you should add a verification tag.

Extremely Weird[edit]

I was applying attachments today and I've noticed something really strange and interesting. Sometimes when I apply an attachment (at least today) random stat buffs will appear. It could be a bug, but it seems to randomize every time I put another attachment down. I'm wearing Full AF. Not sure what to make of this. --Coronawolf 16:59, January 7, 2011 (UTC)

EDIT: It left just as soon as it came, so it's no longer there. I was getting hopeful. From time to time I would unequip the heatsink, then re-equip to see the Automaton's mp get a small boost - or the green "+10" just pop up next to CHR. At one point, I got a readout of +27 to the puppet's AGI from equipping something. I really want to find out if there's something behind this. Sorry I didn't think to screencap and post a pic. --Coronawolf 17:09, January 7, 2011 (UTC)

Feb 2015 update added all new attachments and what is know about them (recipe/checkparam results) First time user so be gentle with me if i screwed anything up.
