Cerberuses
Cerberus3DMax.png
This unearthly three-headed beast prowls the tunnels of Halvung. Cerberus was discovered buried in igneous rock during a construction project. The beast went on a rampage until the mercenary chief managed to tame him. Although Cerberus is faithful to his master, one of his heads is continually afflicted with a craving, which puts the beast in a constant foul mood. In his endless rage, Cerberus spews toxic flames without cease or concern for surroundings, resulting in many hapless tragedies. It is for this reason that even the menacing Troll Mercenaries are said to cover their ears and shiver in fear when the jarring roar of Cerberus echoes through the tunnels.

The Orthrus subspecies is a bellicose canine possessed of three mighty heads. It's core body temperature is said to be of such torridity, even the adulterated heat emitted from it's coal-black, muscle-taut hide would fairly cook a man in his armor. Should this rumor not suffice to deter would-be hunters, the nether flames it wields, with such aptitude to surpass even his Near Eastern counterpart, would put a swift and agonizing end to any bravado-bound fool.

Historical Background[edit]

In Greek mythology, Cerberus or Kerberos (Greek Κέρβερος, Kerberos, demon of the pit), was the hound of Hades—a monstrous three-headed dog (sometimes said to have 50 or 100 heads) with a snake for a tail and innumerable snake heads on his back.

He guarded the gate to Hades (the Greek underworld) and ensured that the dead could not leave and the living could not enter. His brother was Orthrus. He is the offspring of Echidna and Typhon.
