Vana'diel contains a number of crafting guilds which players can join in order to craft (or fish) various items. There are also a number of Hobbies which players can utilize to obtain materials to aid in these crafts.

Alchemy   Bonecraft   Clothcraft

Craft often used to create enhancing and enfeebling potions, healing medicines, enfeebling weapons, and Ninjutsu tools.

Craft which works with bones to create moderately heavy armor and a wide variety of ammunition and jewelry.

Craft which works with natural threads to craft lightweight armor and capes often used by magicians.

Cooking   Fishing   Goldsmithing

Craft which combines ingredients to make a wide variety of tasty and enhancing meals.

Craft which seeks to catch the fish from the oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, streams and ponds of Vana'diel.

Craft which works with precious gems and metals to create beautiful jewelry and glittering armor.

Leathercraft   Smithing   Woodworking

Craft which works with animal hides to craft medium-weight and versatile armor.

Craft which reformulates raw ores into usable ingredients for making heavy armor and weapons.

Craft which uses lumber found around Vana'diel to craft a variety of weapons, shields, ammunition and Mog House furniture.

Craft used in combination with other craft skills in a group effort to inscribe special effects on weapons and armor and create new items with multiple high-level crafts.

[edit] Ranks

To become an experienced crafter, every 10 skill levels one has to prove to the guild that they "have what it takes" by crafting (or buying) an item of the guild's choosing, and to advance to a higher rank to further increase a skill level. This item will be requested, and can be turned in once a level 8 in skill (8, 18, 28, etc.) has been reached. Without acquiring a higher rank, it is not possible to raise a skill past the level limit at 10, 20, 30, and so forth.

Level Advancement Test Level Rank
0-10 8-10  Amateur
8-20 18-20  Recruit
18-30 28-30  Initiate
28-40 38-40  Novice
38-50 48-50  Apprentice
48-60 58-60  Journeyman
58-70 68-70  Craftsman
68-80 78-80  Artisan
78-90 88-90  Adept
88-100 98-100  Veteran
98-110  Expert
108-120  Authority
118-130  Luminary
128-140  Grandmaster
138-150  Legend

Maximum attainable level for crafting skills is currently 110 (Expert), but recipes can go one tier higher (up to 120). Maximum attainable level for Synergy is currently 80.

[edit] Relations Between Crafts Above Skill Level 70

The maximum unrestricted crafting level is Craftsman (70). After level 70, 40 levels can be distributed amongst crafts that are taken above 70. This means every single craft can be taken up to 70 without any issues, but only one to level 110, or four to level 80, and so on. If a skill level is raised beyond level 70 after already having the 'extra' 40 levels distributed to other crafts above 70, the level of the crafts above 70 will decrease, starting with the highest.

As Fishing and Synergy are not synthesis crafts (which use crystals), they are not subject to any of these limitations. Thus Fishing can be level 110, Synergy can be level 80, and all the rest of the crafts can be level 70 while the 40 levels are still available to be distributed.

To level down a craft back to 70, or in other words, to the rank of Craftsman, talking to a guildmaster will give the choice to do so.

[edit] Crafting Tips and Guides

It is generally believed that the following results are accurate. These are, however, assumptions only.

Skill Level vs Recipe Cap -10 ~ -6 -5 ~ -1 0 ~ 10 11 ~ 30 31 ~ 50 51 ~ 70 71 ~ 90 91 ~ 110
Success Rate 50% 50% 95%
HQ Rate 1-2% 8-10% 25% 50%
Skill Up Chance Yes1 Yes Yes No No No No No

1 Only on successful attempts.

Various food and equipment exist that modify these values, including the chance for the skill to advance.

While it was made possible for recipes ten (10) levels below the current skill level for one to advance in said skill, other aspects of this may or may not have remained the same.
